Behind the glamour of Hollywood, a doctor's true calling collided with unexpected destiny, revealing a life less ordinary and profoundly moving.

From the chaos of an emergency room where lives hung by a thread, to the enchanting sets of cinematic legends like E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Return of the Jedi, this memoir unveils the exhilarating, often hilarious, and deeply personal journey of a man living a double life.

Discover the stories behind the creation of iconic film novelizations, and witness how the raw emotions of saving lives unexpectedly shaped unforgettable narratives for the big screen.

Explore the intimate struggles of balancing a demanding medical career with a burgeoning writing passion, and how the masks we wear in life, both literal and figurative, ultimately lead us to our authentic selves.

Get swept into a world where science and fantasy intertwine, and where the most extraordinary adventures are found in the most unexpected places.

With some of his original manuscript pages, this is a never before seen window into the creative process that went into the writing of the classic Jedi novel.

“I used to skip class to read James Kahn’s books. What will you do?”
- John Scalzi. Author, “Old Man’s War”

“Star Wars fans will be riveted… Kahn revisits notes and the final manuscript, sharing what he beefed up, what he wondered about, what he wishes he could have done differently, and what challenges he faced—like having to describe the climactic revelation of Darth Vader’s face without access to a production still.”
